What are Lean Manufacturing Assessments?
A lean assessment is taking an object review of our client’s operations from a lean perspective. Most companies have implemented and use lean management systems and lean manufacturing tools, but most companies require additional help to get to the next level of operational excellence.
The goal of a lean assessment is to eliminate waste and inefficiencies out of your company’s operations and provide you with a schedule for implementing process improvements.
The Process
The first step is to perform a facilities assessment to get a clear understanding of your current state operations and process shortcomings. This is put into a visual current state value stream map (VSM) and a report is written with our recommendations and timing for implementation of identified Kaizen events. As a lean manufacturing operations consulting firm, we also review all process documentation and reporting methods to see if the shop floor metrics are tied back to your lean management system.
Depending on your current state assessment and where process shortcomings are, the recommendation could be in shipping and receiving, materials flow and management, workstation/facility layout or in tooling and equipment.
